The Way

I have always loved Christmas. I like the lights, trees, ornaments, gifts, parties, well . . . not so much all the parties. I like most of the people at the parties, but being an introvert by nature, I like smaller groups and not a whole bunch of hoopla. I realize that I could sound like Ebenezer Scrooge to some. I really do like the people and most of the activity, but I get overwhelmed by all of the "on time". Introverts get that term. It is not that we are trying to be phony, it is that we are trying to be nice and participate, just don't ask us to be "on" all the time. Here in early December, I look at my calendar between work commitments, church commitments, and family commitments and just feel a little overwhelmed. Days are filled with incredible amounts of work, nights are filled with parties, ball games, church related ministry opportunities and family commitments. And . . . all of them are good things. It seems that the best made plans are really worthless unless one carries out those plans. And . . . so that pretty sums up my blogging habits this month. I always plan to update the blog and then distractions and busyness creep in and well . . . I end up apologizing in the first blog post back. I headed to Dallas the weekend before Thanksgiving for the Youth Specialties conference. It always proves a good time meeting with youth leaders and catching up with old friends. Being back in Dallas was good too, although we were downtown. Much has changed in Dallas since we moved away in 1989. It was good to run in few areas that I ran in long ago and the weather was nice. I took the week of Thanksgiving as vacation and thoroughly enjoyed the time off. I played golf one day; raked leaves in an exercise of futility (the yard looked great for about 4 minutes); and, enjoyed basically being a bum. Growing up in the KC area and being a sentimental goober at times, I could not help but post this video on my blog. I love KC. I guess there are just too many good memories. This is not the coolest song but for those of you who know KC, you get this song. Merry Christmas!

Great niece Ava I really enjoy my job and I really enjoy time off from my job too. Since last Weds. I have been enjoying hanging out with Sondra and the girls. I have done a little around the house and have pretty much run every day but have had a blast being with the family. We traveled to MO on Sat and enjoyed our time with my dad, my brother and his wife, Julie, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. My family is pretty much crazy which says alot about me and how I act. There is still some sadness with my mom being gone, but memories are very good. I ran quite a bit around the area that I spent as a teenager and reflected on many fun times and experiences with my mom.We also made it down to the Country Club Plaza with one of our cousins Jenny. She was a lot of fun to be around. She is a twin and I am forever getting them confused. I just realized that I have been remiss in blogging this past week and can only chock that up to being lazy. No excuses on my part. I have been on vacation and guess that has translated into vacating from blogging. The past week has been very good and Christmas was great for us. We hosted a couple of families who families live out of state for a Christmas Eve meal. Both of the wives were pregnant and could not travel. One of the ladies, Trisha has had her baby since that time and Olivia is doing well and you can catch up with them here . The other lady is due mid-January. We had a great time with them and their little guys who are 2 and 1.5 yrs. Christmas morning was just the Turners and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The girls pretty much knew what they were getting for Christmas because they had picked out "all" of their presents. At least they thought they had picked all of them out.
